Visit Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine, home to one of Japan’s largest mikoshi (portable shrines) and known as the birthplace of Edo Kanjin Sumo, an important chapter in the history of professional sumo in Edo. Before experiencing sumo as a uniquely Japanese sport, take a step back in time and discover its rich history, traditions, and cultural roots at this historic shrine.
Learn the history, traditions, and basic rules of sumo, Japan’s traditional sport, before stepping into an authentic sumo environment. This unique venue was once Kitanoumi Stable, where legendary Yokozuna Kitanoumi served as stablemaster and trained wrestlers. Today, it is described as the only venue in Japan that uses an actual former sumo stable. After discovering the traditions behind the sport, get closer to the action with a hands-on sumo experience alongside a real sumo wrestler—an opportunity to experience the strength, technique, and spirit of sumo for yourself.

● 1day prior to the tour date: 40% charged of the tour fare
● Prior to the starting time of the tour: 50% charged of the tour fare
● On or after the tour date or without notice, No show: 100% charged of the tour fare
No-shows and cancellations made on or after the tour date are charged 100% of the tour fare. Refunds are not issued for itinerary changes caused by weather or operational reasons

The AM Bus Tour finishes around 14:00 at Ginza Chopstick Studio. The PM Bus Tour finishes around 18:00 at Ginza Chopstick Studio.
The live guide is in English. A multilingual scripts are available in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese and Ukrainian — upon a request.
Children of all ages are welcome. Infants must sit on laps and are not charged a separate fare. Most travelers can participate; the bus is stroller-accessible but not wheelchair-accessible.
The tour is stroller-accessible, but wheelchairs are not accessible.
